J/ψ and Ψ Suppression in Hadronic Matter
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a microscopic calculation of the breakup cross sections of J/ψ and ψ on pions and nucleons as a function of the kinetic energy. These cross sections are used for the investigation of the J/ψ to continuum and ψ/J/ψ ratios in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. The contribution of produced comoving pions to the ψ/J/ψ signal is calculated. While this model can account for the data, the uncertainties in the parameter values do not allow to exclude the possibility of additional sources for charmonium absorption, like a resonance gas or the quark gluon plasma.

Anomalous J/ψ suppression and charmonium dissociation cross sections
We study J/ψ suppression in Pb+Pb collisions at CERN-SPS energies in hadronic matter with energyand temperature-dependent charmonium dissociation cross sections calculated in the quark-interchange model of Barnes and Swanson. We find that the variation of J/ψ survival probability from peripheral to central collisions can be explained as induced by hadronic matter absorption in central collision...
متن کاملA Quantitative Analysis of Charmonium Suppression in Nuclear Collisions
Data from J/ψ and ψ production in p − A collisions are used to determine the cross section for absorption of pre-resonance charmonium in nuclear matter. The J/ψ suppression in O − Cu, O − U and S − U collisions is fully reproduced by the corresponding nuclear absorption, while Pb − Pb collisions show an additional suppression increasing with centrality. We study the onset of this change in term...
متن کاملA Brief History of J / ψ Suppression 1 Helmut Satz
Statistical QCD predicts that strongly interacting matter will become deconfined at high temperatures and/or densities. The aim of high energy nuclear collisions is to study the onset of deconfinement and the properties of deconfined media in the laboratory. Hence it is essential to define an unambiguous and experimentally viable probe for de-confinement. Twelve years ago, T. Matsui and I propo...
متن کاملHow Hard Are the Form Factors in Hadronic Vertices with Heavy Mesons?
The NDΛc and ND ∗Λc form factors are evaluated in a full QCD sum rule calculation. We study the double Borel sum rule for the three point function of one meson one nucleon and one Λc current up to order six in the operator product expansion. The double Borel transform is performed with respect to the nucleon and Λc momenta, and the form factor is evaluated as a function of the momentum Q2 of th...
متن کاملEvidence for non-hadronic interactions of charm in heavy-ion collisions
An investigation of the formation and suppression dynamics of J/Ψ, χc and Ψ mesons opens the possibility to address fundamental questions about the properties of the state of matter at high temperature and density. Up to date, a simultaneous description of the seemingly energy-independent suppression of J/Ψ together with its narrow rapidity distribution and a strong elliptic flow v2 of charmed ...
